Friends membership campaign supports student scholarships, coverage and other needs for The Daily Texan

Proceeds from Friends of The Daily Texan membership campaign – now underway –  will focus on additional scholarship funds for students, needed equipment for Texan journalists to do their jobs, travel funds for coverage and conferences for continuing significant projects, such as providing funds in support of the digitization of the Texan’s archives back to its founding 120 years ago, and other needs that might arise.

Please demonstrate your support for The Texan by making a donation or joining at this address:

Deductions are tax deductible, and all funds minus minimal Friends group operating expenses, go directly to The Texan and Texas Student Media

Since its organization in launching in 2013, the Friends organization, a non-profit, tax-deductible corporation,  supported creation of 6 new scholarships for Texan staffers, plus providing key funding to advance digitization of The Texan archives and preserve the paper for posterity.

Funds have also gone to photo and video equipment, conferences, coverage of sporting events and other requests and needs outlined by Texan management, and approved by the board of the FOTDT.

The Texan continues to fulfill its twin missions of covering the University and training the next generation of journalists. However, it is not immune to the financial and cultural pressures facing media today.

“We are excited to relaunch our Friends of The Daily Texan membership program,” said a statement from the membership committee of the Friends group. “Our goal is to create a steady stream of funding so we can continue to support Texan students and the important work they do.”

Friends membership extends for a 12-month period, and there are a variety of levels of membership.  Any level you choose is greatly appreciated.

Also, you may make a donation to the group, and earmark your preferred use for the funds you provide.

If you have joined the Friends group within the past year, you do not have to rejoin at this time. We will send a reminder when the time is right.
