A new date – Friday, April 8, 2022 – has been set for the next annual Friends of The Daily Texan dinner.

Dinners planned for fall of 2020 and 2021 were cancelled due to COVID-19 health concerns.

The annual Friends dinner has been held in recent years in the Shirley Bird Perry Ballroom in The Texas Union on the UT campus, and that venue has been reserved for April 8 next year.

As last year, the Friends group will fund scholarships for student staffers and award those virtually this fall.

Despite cancellation of the two dinners, the Friends group has continued its scholarship program for Texan staffers and also selection of 2020 and 2021 Daily Texan Hall of Fame honorees.

The 2020 scholarship and Hall of Fame winners were announced virtually last year.

The 2021 scholarship winners and Hall of Fame honorees will be announced in coming weeks.

Total amount to be awarded to 8 Texan staffers this fall will be $9,000.

That includes a $1,500 grant from Jerry and Becky Conn, two $1,000 McConnico-Bouju scholarships and 5 grants from the Friends group.

Winners of 2020 and 2021 scholarships and Hall of Fame honorees from both years will be invited to the April 2022 dinner.
