Three experiencd senior editors have been selected to lead The Daily Texan staff over the next 12 months.
They are:
Ava Saunders, Editor-in-Chief until May 2026
Ava Saunders is an incoming junior journalism and government major from Wheaton, Illinois.
Ava is currently serving as the Editor-in-Chief through spring 2026. She and has worked in the opinion department for the past four semesters as a Columnist, Senior Columnist and Associate Editor. She also spent one year in the copy department as a General Staffer.
As Editor-in-Chief she hopes to prioritize uplifting a diverse set of student voices to reflect the opinions of the entire student body.
Aaron Sullivan, Summer Managing Editor, 2025
Aaron Sullivan is a rising senior studying Journalism and Theatre & Dance at the University of Texas at Austin. He is also a part of the Theatre & Dance BA Honors Program, where he’s using his journalism skills to write an interview-based play about his hometown of Bastrop, Texas.
Aaron has spent most of his time at the Texan in the news department, focusing his coverage on local government and politics as a Senior News Reporter. He has also worked at the copy desk and in the photo department before becoming an Associate Managing Editor in spring 2025. The Texan has presented Aaron with countless opportunities, and he looks forward to leading the publication as its Managing Editor this summer. As Managing Editor, he hopes to broaden the Texan’s coverage to connect the Forty Acres with the rest of Austin, one of the nation’s fastest-growing cities.
Outside of the Texan, Aaron has written for publications across the Austin area, including the Austin American-Statesman, where he covers the Bastrop City Council. Aaron works at the Moody Writing Support Program, where he enjoys coaching and advising young writers in UT’s journalism program. This May, he will spend the month reporting on LGBTQ+ life in Ireland through the Moody College’s documentary photography in Ireland course.
Kylee Howard, Fall Managing Editor, 2025
Kylee is a rising senior majoring in journalism with minors in history and Spanish. She spent two years in The Daily Texan’s news department and also contributed to the projects department.
Starting as a general assignment reporter, she worked her way up to News Editor in fall 2024, leading coverage of the 2024 U.S. General Election. She also served as Associate Managing Editor in spring 2025.
Now, Kylee looks forward to expanding The Texan’s Spanish-language department and continuing to strengthen the newsroom’s service to the UT community.
