Thanks to a generous gift, the Moody Writing Support Program at Moody College of Communication at UT has received a reprieve to operate for an additional year.
Without significant fund-raising, the program will end after next year.
In the 11 years since Associate Professor Diana Dawson created this program, it has grown to serve 2,000 student appointments annually and 70% of those are journalism majors.
This program has become increasingly important as public schools fail to equip students with the proper skills in grammar, spelling and punctuation on which to build a career in professional communication.
Recently one former coach from the program won the Pulitzer Prize in Public Service and another was named the Michael J. Feeney Emerging Journalist of the Year by the national NABJ organization.
