Texan ‘Friends’ annual gathering Oct. 16

We’ve got a date. Please mark  Oct. 16 on your calendar for the third annual gathering in Austin of Friends of The Daily Texan, Inc.
This year’s event will be a luncheon, to be held on campus, in the Texas Union building.
“As those who have attended our previous two events will attest, the focus is on The Texan, and how alumni can assist as the paper transitions into a digital age,” said FOTDT President John Reetz.
“But, as with all Texan gatherings when we were all on campus and through the decades, attendees can expect camaraderie, tall tales and the ability to connect with Texan alumni from your time on campus, and other periods.”
In addition to the luncheon there will be an FOTDT board meeting, open to the public, on Thursday, Oct. 15 and other formal or informal gatherings of attendees. In past years, many out-of-town  attendees have made a weekend of it, staying over in Austin to catch up on the city and university, Reetz said.
This year’s gathering will include announcement of Texan Hall of Fame inductees, brief status on FOTDT group, update on The Texan and ways alumni can assist. A full agenda will be made available as the event nears.
“As with previous gatherings, we will work hard to make this a fun event, while still remembering the sanctity of the cause, and why we exist,” Reetz said.
A reception will be held prior to the luncheon.
And as with previous gatherings, the luncheon will have a registration fee, and signup, but more info to come later on that.
All proceeds from the luncheon and other fund-raising events go to support The Texan. FOTDT is a non-profit organization, with no administrative fees or staff fees, so all money that is cleared from events goes directly to The Texan.
