Friends of The Daily Texan is pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the 2016 Friends of The Daily Texan Awards.
These awards recognize Daily Texan alumni and supporters who have led distinguished careers, as well as other individuals who have demonstrated support for The Texan.
This year’s awards will be presented at a dinner on September 16, 2016, in Austin. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend.
The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 30. They can be submitted for one of three categories
* The Texan Hall of Fame — for nominees who worked on The Texan at least 15 years ago
* The Rising Star Award — for nominees who worked on The Texan in the past 15 years
* The Griff Singer Award — for nominees who did not work on the Texan, but who have contributed to the editorial quality and/or sustainability of The Texan
Based on the results of a survey of those who attended last year’s awards ceremony, we have chosen to shorten the length of this year’s luncheon by limiting the awards to no more than one Griff Singer Award, one Rising Star Award and three Hall of Fame inductions. The one exception to these limits this year will be for “legacy class inductees” who served on The Texan or supported it more than 50 years ago.
You can learn more about the award process, and fill out a nomination form below. You also can learn about past recipients of Texan awards here.
The nominations will be submitted to an eight-member screening committee, which then will make recommendations to the Friends of The Daily Texan Board for final action.
“Our hats off to FOTDT board member Tom Kleinworth, who has done an exceptional job of working with others to review nomination rules, and organize the selection process” said John Reetz, president of FOTDT. “And a special thanks to FOTDT vice-president Cyndi Taylor Krier for assisting during the review and discussion.
Please submit your nominations, either online or by e-mailing them to [email protected], by March 30. We hope we’ll see you at the September 16 Friends of the Daily Texan luncheon in Austin.
Thank you for our support of The Daily Texan.
