‘Darkness’ – new from The Drag Audio Production House – now available

The Drag Audio Production House in the Moody College of Communication at UT Austin has released its season two podcast, “Darkness,” focusing on the serial bombings that took place in Austin in 2018.

“Darkness” follows season one’s popular crime podcast “The Orange Tree.”

“We released the trailer two days ago and it’s already climbing the true crime charts,” said  Katey Outka, the associate director for The Drag.

Outka oversees the day-to-day operations of The Drag and manages the students, as well as executive producing all of the podcasts.

“The host, Ashley Miznazi, is a senior in the School of Journalism and Media, and she did really excellent work building relationships with sources (survivors, victims’ families and law enforcement officials) and telling this story sensitively,” Outkas said. “We’re really proud of this one and excited for it to come out.”

The Drag was founded in 2019 as part of the Moody College of Communication. It’s an audio production house run by UT faculty and staff who hire students to create journalistic podcasts.

The Drag’s first podcast, “The Orange Tree,” debuted in the summer of 2020 and reached the top 20 in the Apple Podcasts charts.

The Drag has since released three other podcasts and has six additional podcasts in production, as well as future seasons of existing podcasts.

Robert Quigley, Associate Director for the School of Journalism and Media, is also Executive Director at The Drag.
